Last week was a giddy round of doctor visits, and 'tis good to have them over. Most of my medical data is blessedly positive—for which I am very grateful. Blood glucose count, blood pressure, cardiac health…all to the good. I need to remind myself of this fine situation as I arise every day with almost all my muscles and joints aching.
That's before my meds and my coffee and my general moving around.
I report this boring state of hurt because I intend to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT….with a plan that goes against my deeply inactive grain: ACTIVITY! In the past, I have thought of developing a program promoting the benefits of INACTIVITY, a concept too often ignored.
Think about all the injuries that result from moving around, even in mundane ways like stepping off a curb, stepping out anywhere really.
I'm not even going to start on all the sports-related injuries, all the bone-breaking and muscle-pulling that proliferate with every unnecessary movement….and keep in mind that I insist that ANY movement is unnecessary!
Look at all the fun things I can do at home, comfortably sitting in my usual corner of the sofa, sipping coffee (staying fully awake through my inactivity) and reading all my many library books….
GOODY!
or watching my favorite TV shows and series saved on my DVR….and I haven't even tapped into the bottomless pile of great view via streaming (Niki has NetFlix and I have Amazon Prime, both great streaming sources)….all on our lovely new (bought end of May) flat screen TV…
YUMMY!
And I have my daughter Niki, our kitty Mathilda, our Monkey on the Mantel and myriad animal puppets (both farm and jungle species) to hang out with…
FUN!
(or is it "with whom I hang out")?
Now this is early August, so I don't even have the pleasure of a blazing fire in our darling fireplace...
DELICIOUS!
which we will enjoy by November, and for many chilly winter and early pre-spring months…
With all these fine entertainment options (actually my favorite hobbies if not obsessions are reading and media viewing)…it's a wonder I move around at all!
(Dear Reader, I encourage your comments to any outrageous or even occasionally brilliant points I may make in this blog. Do comment freely with no fear of violent reprisal on my part—that would require overly active typing, counter to my inactive raison d'etre!)
Oh dear, I somehow lost track of my beginning words of this post—something about getting active. You see how deeply ingrained is that INACTIVE habit.
Future posts must breathlessly deal with my dramatic and entertaining efforts to turn the wheel, amp up the dial, crank the handle (you get the idea)…and GET MOVING!
(UGH!)
